Community Breeding Loft

With Racing Pigeons I was always been an advocate for individual breeding units.  It appears that with American Show Racers there is more success in a community loft unless the individual breeding units are very large.  Pigeons are very social and can get frustrated being all by themselves.  Also, flying is important especially for correct bowel evacuation.  After visiting the loft of Castle Child in the summer of 2015 I decided it would be a good move to build a community breeding loft  I got the basic design from Cass's loft .  I have two units that can accommodate six pair of birds. The nestboxes are large enough to pair the birds and then release them into the loft.  There is hardwood grate flooring that is 10 inches off the main concrete floor.  The grated flooring lets feathers, dust, and poop fall below.  Grated floors also discourage birds from building nests on the ground. There is a utility room between the two units where feed, water etc., can be stored.  There is also a central vacuum.  All nextboxes are color coded both inside and outside to make nest recognition easier for the birds.
